PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH

Composition * Rhetoric * Literature
Dallas College - Mountain View Campus  * Dallas, TX
I use Active Learning to engage Comp/Rhetoric and Literature students through writing as they develop skills to assess complex issues and become better critical thinkers. As an American-Literature scholar my focus is African-American and Diverse Literature. My research interest is intra-racial colorism in Harlem Renaissance writings of writers like Jessie Fauset, Marita Bonner, Zora Neale Hurston and Dorothy West. These authors identify skin color as an experiential determinant and colorism, which is a by-product of racism, as a pervasive intra-racial practice that still persists today.
